    ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1

    This is a CERTIFICATION EVENT.  IT IS IMPORTANT TO STUDY THE WORKBOOK and PRACTICE THE PROCEDURES PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.

    Study workbooks, detailed agendas and policies will be mailed prior to the event to the address provided with registrations.

    Day One:  Tuesday, May 19 (Location: Southeast Technical College)

    Bring:  Workbook/folder, pencil/highlighter, non-programmable calculator

    8:00am Check In/Introductions

    8:15am Review of ASTM Procedures

    Noon Lunch (on own)

    1:00pm Review of ASTM Procedures, Equipment available

    Day Two: Wednesday, May 20 (Location:  Southeast Technical College)  

    Bring:  Gov't Issued Photo ID, workbook, #2 pencils, non-programmable calculator, PPE-safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe work boots/shoes

    8:00am: Review (Breakfast on your own)

    8:45am (approximately):  Written Exam

    Performance Exams - Immediately following by scheduled time (SDDOT Wash Bay - Door 301)

    (Test times will be provided for performance exams to space out attendees.)

    The certification was designed by ACI to promote better understanding of the ASTM procedures related to testing and acceptance of plastic concrete. This understanding will provide more reliable and accurate test results for better measurement of concrete performance.

    Certification requires successful completion of both a hands on performance and written exam.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    A Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete: Upon successful completion of the program, participants will have an International Certification and better understanding of the following ASTM testing procedures:

    ASTM C 1064: Temperature of Freshly Mixed Portland Cement Concrete

    ASTM C 172: Sampling of Freshly Mixed Concrete

    ASTM C 143: Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete

    ASTM C 138: Unit Weight, Yield & Air Content (Gravametric) of Concrete

    ASTM C 231: Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Pressure Method

    ASTM C 173: Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Volumetric Method

    ASTM C 31: Making & Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field

    Certification is valid for 5 years.

    **Steel toe boots/shoes, gloves, mask and safety glasses required.

    **You must be physically able to perform the tests or request ADA accommodations from ACI's Certifications Department PRIOR to exam day.

    **Please Note**:  Enrollment is limited.  Detailed agendas and event information will be mailed to the address provided on the registration form.  Substitutions are welcome but must be communicated to SDRMCA in advance.
