Sustainable Design Solutions-Choose Concrete

Concrete has a significant number of ways to earn LEED points for your project.  The most common credit categories are Sustainable Sites, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources and Innovation and Design Process. 

*Concrete is locally produced from natural resources.  It is produced from recycled materials which reduce CO2 and landfill use. 

*Concrete's thermal mass reduces temperature swings in buildings and conserves energy. Uses of Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF) also offers opportunities to gain additional R values anf further reduce heating and cooling costs. 

*Concrete's light color lowers energy use by reducing heat island effects.  Concrete's light color reflects more light at night also reducing energy needs. 

*At the end of it's design life, concrete can be recycled and reused.
